We are often asked where all of The Great Exchange’s inventory comes from and the answer is: everywhere! Items are collected from all types of entities that have changed operations, moved or closed their location. For example, during the month of June TGE brought in:

  • Brand new office supplies from a hospital in Boston
  • New and gently used office supplies and accessories from a DPW in Bedford
  • Office furniture and fixtures from a closed college in Worcester
  • Creative materials and science lab resources from a reuse maker space in Adams
  • Power and hand tools from a Department of Health in North Hampton
  • Classroom resources and storage options from an elementary school in Millbury

All of TGE’s inventory in is in new and like new condition. Some resources are donated in an organized manner, other items are recovered on “treasure hunts” conducted by staff and volunteers at closed facilities. Each source is a unique bounty , which means you never know what you may find at The Great Exchange! This is demonstrated in the one minute video below (click the photo) that features scans of the recently acquired inventory. Check it out then make a plan to come see the more than 700 types of supplies, furniture and fixtures for yourself!
