Community Spotlights

Members of Middlesex Savings Bank in Groton volunteered their time on February 29 as part of the 2024 Leap of Kindness Day. The extra hands allowed TGE to build large shelving units in our storage area to better help us manage incoming inventory and stay organized. We are so grateful for their time and extra efforts to help out our local community.

Thanks to the generous support of Steve Rotman of Rotman’s Furniture in Worcester, TGE was able to rescue over 5,200 lbs of new furniture and supplies, worth an estimated $7,000. Many of these resources have already found new homes with other nonprofit organizations and municipal departments. We are grateful for his partnership and extra efforts to repurpose these items!

The staff at the nonprofit Concord Bridge newspaper have been frequent shoppers and supporters of TGE. They recently visited TGE looking to update an existing office with more professional pieces. The savings achieved by shopping at TGE will allow them to further their mission of providing a free weekly newspaper to the residents and businesses of Concord, MA.

It’s not often that we get nearly 100 of one furniture item! Boston University recently delivered a truck load of like new Herman Miller office chairs to TGE. Our partnership helped preserve the value of over 2,800 pounds of furniture worth an estimated $33,000. Office chairs are a highly sought after item at TGE and BU’s generosity will benefit countless schools, nonprofits, municipal departments, and small businesses.

TGE recently donated elastic webbing to the Department of Developmental Services Assistive Technology Centers. The AT Centers focus is to modify and adapt equipment to create customized equipment for individuals. This material will allow the designers, techs and adaptive clothing designers to modify clothing, adapt equipment and create solutions for unique situations. We appreciate their commitment to reusing resources and are pleased to support their important work.

Our partnership with Frank Allen at Sterling Moving Company has helped rescue nearly 5,000 pounds of furniture and supplies to date. Sterling incorporates environmentally focused practices into their day to day operations and works locally “to act as a model for reuse, recycling, and safe disposal.” They routinely donate furniture that is in good, re-usable condition to nonprofit organizations in the area. We are grateful for their partnership and commitment to rescuing resources.

Through our partnership with the Director of Materials and Recycling (Sue Higgins) at Northeastern University we have helped to rescue more than 1,000lbs to date of new and like new office supplies, facilities resources, and storage options that were no longer needed. We are grateful for their collaboration in helping to preserve the value of so many resources that can be used by others!

Recycling Works in Massachusetts is a recycling assistance program funded by the MA DEP that helps organizations reduce waste and maximize recycling efforts.  Members of Recycling Works recently visited TGE for a tour of our facility to better understand what the program does and how we can continue to work together to prevent waste. We are grateful for their time and partnership!

The Nashua River Watershed Association has been a huge supporter of TGE. Their team has been busy updating their space with several new tables, desks, and chairs. With the savings achieved at TGE (approximately $2,000), more funds can be directed towards the important work they do to protect the Nashua River watershed.

TGE partnered with the Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC) to help them set up a new location with office furniture. Shopping at TGE was able to save the WCAC an estimated $7,000 dollars on the cost of desk chairs, tables, storage units, and children’s items. The saving achieved at TGE will allow WCAC to put funds back into the valuable services they provide across central Massachusetts.

Over the last two years our partnership with Spry Moving has helped rescue over 4,000 pounds of tables, desks, office chairs, and facilities items. We appreciate their commitment to encouraging clients to recycle or donate their excess furniture and equipment and are grateful to be a part of the upcycle network of non-profits, charitable organizations and schools they work with to give a second life to quality items no longer needed.
