Community Spotlights

By shopping at The Great Exchange the Keystone Educational Collaborative was recently able to save an estimated $4,600 on 40 pieces of furniture needed for their new school! The focus of this nonprofit located in Central, MA “is to support the special education and related service needs of…students by creating a program that embraces a child centered approach to learning.” TGE is proud to help this organization preserve their funds for the important programs and services they provide.

MassRecycle board members recently toured The Great Exchange to learn more about what we do and how our missions align. MassRecycle is a “statewide non-profit coalition dedicated to improving sustainable materials management, recycling, and organics reduction and diversion in Massachusetts and beyond.” We appreciate that each year we have the opportunity to host board members and collaborate with the professional organizations that this nonprofit represents.

The Great Exchange recently partnered with exalpha, an Absolute Biotech company, to recover resources no longer needed in their Shirley, MA location. This collaboration helped preserve the value of more than 4,000lbs of shelving, office chairs, and desks as well as over 1,000lbs of operational supplies. We are grateful for their incredibly generous donation and their extra efforts to pass these resources on to others who can benefit from them.

Comrex, a local business right here in Devens, recently saved nearly $6,000 on new and like new furniture to update their conference room by shopping with TGE! Comrex “designs and builds equipment that uses the most advanced available technology to connect broadcasters with their audiences.” They have been long term supporters of TGE and are frequent donors of their manufacturing by-products. We are grateful for their unwavering support in helping to prevent waste.

We had 10 volunteers help out during United Way of North Central MA‘s 2024 Day of Caring! These volunteers helped us completely transform our various storage areas, unload and clean new inventory items, and clean out/properly recycle materials no longer needed. We are grateful to this group and to United Way for providing such a great avenue for folks to get involved in their communities.

Make It Labs, a nonprofit maker space in New Hampshire was recently able to purchase over 40 matching Herman Miller task chairs. Shopping at TGE saved this nonprofit over $10,000, allowing them to update their space and replace a mixed set of old and worn out chairs.  Staff love that they can be tucked in and free up aisle space in high traffic areas!

Over the last two years our partnership with Spry Moving has helped rescue over 7,000 pounds of tables, desks, office chairs, and facilities items. We appreciate their commitment to encouraging clients to recycle or donate their excess furniture and equipment and are grateful to be a part of the upcycle network of non-profits, charitable organizations and schools they work with to give a second life to quality items no longer needed.

Through our partnership with the Director of Materials and Recycling (Sue Higgins) at Northeastern University we have helped to rescue more than 1,400lbs to date of new and like new office supplies, facilities resources, and storage options that were no longer needed. We are grateful for their collaboration in helping to preserve the value of so many resources that can be used by others!

The staff at the nonprofit Concord Bridge newspaper have been frequent shoppers and supporters of TGE. They recently visited TGE looking to update an existing office with more professional pieces. The savings achieved by shopping at TGE will allow them to further their mission of providing a free weekly newspaper to the residents and businesses of Concord, MA.
